WATERLOO, NY/OSAGE CITY KS -- SM Derby Duplicates has signed on to be a presenting sponsor of the annual Osage City Demolition Derby in Osage City, Kansas.
The Osage City derby features three classes, including the 80s and Newer, powderpuff and compacts.
SM Derby Duplicates will reward the drivers with gift cards toward built models. The top three in the 80s and Newer feature will recieve cards with $50, $25 and $15. The winners of both the compact derby and the powderpuff main will recieve cards worth $50, and the heat winners will recieved cards worth $25. There will also be a few gift certificates among the door prizes offered to pre-registered drivers, each worth $25.
The deal came together in the wake of a chance Facebook meeting of SM Derby Duplicates' Chris Marquart and Osage City rep Barry Brown.
"I checked out their Facebook page, made a few contacts and things came together pretty quick," Marquart said. "They were looking for sponsors and we're looking for exposure among the derby faithful. It's a perfect fit."
"We had the message left from Chris and I've seen some pictures of the cars, they're pretty neat and this is something the guys in our area will really get behind," Brown said.
In addition to the gift cards, the Osage City event will pay $2,500 to the winner of the 80s and Newer class, and will also award a box-style Crown Vic to the winner. The compact event is a team program, with five teams of three cars each going for $1,700.
"This is as much help as any other sponsor we might get," Brown said. "This is going to be a lot of fun."
As part of the deal, Osage City will also recieve a promotional 'Osage City' Crown Victoria to use as they promote their show, and Osage City Derby will be a presenting sponsor of the compact model derby building competition co-hosted by SM Derby Duplicates and NLR Racing, July 4 at crazyjsplace.proboards.com.
Osage City will also be involved with Harvest Havoc Presented by MGM Derby Prodcuts and Slider Shafts, the big team model bulding competition scheduled for the end of September.
